THE DEPARTURE by Iolanda Leotta

The Departure

 Iolanda Leotta

Her voice is no longer heard.

Torn from life, suddenly,

has left an unbridgeable void.

The joy of seeing her return

after being hospitalized,

a kiss, a smile,

then the final breath,

she sighs in the arms of her daughter

that begged her to open the eyes

but her heart no longer beats,

she will invoke his name

night and day: "Return mother".

No soothing words

can be enough to soothe the pain.

Even the sister-in-law who loved her

like a sister, regrets her,

she couldn’t believe her eyes,

she lost her forever and cries.

In silence her voice is heard,

"I will stay with you forever":

who loves and is loved doesn’t die,

her soul lives beyond.

It’s the star that will shine forever.

The departure is not the end,

It’s a flap of wings that leads to paradise.

Some say it’s the end,

but a man who married her for love,

doesn’t resign himself

he has been with her for many years,

he doesn’t realize she’s gone forever

and awaits his return in vain.

Iolanda Leotta is a poetess and storyteller from Italy.
