THE BEAUTY OF THE SEA
(To the Homeland)

I didn't choose of you, oh beauty of the Sea
but God had bestowed you upon my ancestors as a blessing.
In you, I feel like a queen adorned in filigree;
the longing that uplifts my soul,
and love increases my hope.
I see how you bride in the blue waters, of melted snow
by desired spring, among the mountains,
and you enjoy the summer with fairies.
To join in the song with the sons
united in the ancient language
of the gods,
where the echoes of dragon horses hooves are felt,
descending from the memory centuries;
they sacrifice the spirit to breathe without the tears of longing.
And to drink the sun in golden cups,
through fields of grain with birds
and weasels.
To eat bread spread with stars butter,
and to sleep with the moon in crimson sheets.
Gjelina Maçi, born and raised in Lezha (Albania), well-educated, rooted by the Kelmendi! Author of four books of poetry. "I am a Woman", "Daughter of the Sun", "Beyond Merchandise and Love", "With You". Her poems have been appreciated by all online media and have been translated and published in foreign countries! She has participated in competitions at home and abroad where she has been nominated for the prize in many magazines, national and international anthology journals. She was awarded and awarded the "At Gjergj Fishta" award by Mirdita magazine (Albania) in 2023.
