POEMS by Isilda Nunes

IN THE ETERNAL RETURN, THE VERB

In the shadow of silence, dreams fade away,

chimeras are dissolved.

Dying, the city doesn’t warp hope

in the knitting of days.

Forgotten, the formula for entering Heaven.

Hades play hide and seek in the alleys,

where the spectres wander.

In the dubious corner of the Future,

Demeter in vain implores Persephone.

Death jokes, Life fades away.

In the shadow of silence

oblivious to the city’s pain,

Creator and Creation in symbiotic union.

The evasion of Humanity,

the incorporation of the Divine in the power to touch Heaven.

The exuded Art exults in redemption.

At the tip of the pen, the Becoming,

in the eternal return, the Verb.

THE END OF THE LINE

The shore overflows the silence of the season of uncertainty.

There is no more Persephone’s abduction or Psyche’s enchantment.

There are no birds to draw the sky,

nor torches to light the night.

There is no passion, no whisper or ardour.

Your hand, barren of us, beckons fate.

Desire knitted in silken sheets,

fades in the farewell suspended from your lips.

The crows augur frost

in the line of time.

I saw no more the saltpans of your eyes,

nor the sea of your lap.

The sonata in Adagio Sostenutto

agonises in pas de deux.

In lapidated absence,

the vacant gaze

dictates the verdict.

The swan succumbs on the stage.
