POEMS by Gabriela Lages Veloso

About Living

Gabriela Lages Veloso

My home is the world.

A ship without a port.

My food is alms.

Rain in the desert.

Invisible, that I am,

I walk forever and never.

Selene

I'm part of the universe,

but I'm not adrift.

I am attracted by a

force greater than myself,

bigger than life,

bigger than everything.

I'm made up of phases.

Metamorphosis in progress.

I am the reflection of starlight.

A solar mirror.

I am the silence of the night.

A silence that pulses and screams.

A silence that controls the tides.

Silence, light and shadow.

Gaia

With every turn, a new cycle.

I'm trapped in the sands of time.

Days, months, years go by, and

here I am. I have witnessed many

stories of this being that lives in me.

As the mother that I am,

I've watched all the the footsteps

of my children in caves,

villages, kingdoms, empires,

metropolises and in the

what is yet to come on this long road.

Trapped in the hands of the clock,

I watched endless wars,

the passing of countless seasons.

Flower, leaf, snow and sun.

I've seen life reappear,

love remain, a new cycle begin,

dream or freedom?

The sea of glass

In your cold, deep blade,

there are mysteries

hidden, the fear of

confrontation with hidden

truths or, who knows

simply getting lost.

Your hard water reflects

and enchants the Narcissus,

leading he to eternal discontent.

Your cold fire reveals

the inner beast that

tries to hide.

Mirror, you are the pit

deepest that exists.

In a single glance

you cross the barriers

of time and life.

Magical, dark

or true, just,

you are a sea of glass.

The Sea

No one has ever touched

your mystery. You have this

immensity that crosses

horizons, but a

shell contains you.

On the surface, all

we can see is a

mirror disturbed by the

waves. A strong wind

insists on rocking your

salt-laden waters.

In the depths

you hear is the echo of

your silence, which shouts, to the

the four winds, stories

shipwrecked by time.

On this journey, you have the

moon as your guide of the tides.

Whoever crosses

your waters, even

with just a glance,

feels the difficult freedom

to return to port.
